Cole Is On A Roll

Once Again Stanton Can’t Avoid Injury

You can now add Giancarlo Stanton to the adage that death, taxes and Stanton getting hurt are things that are inevitable. Before the New York Yankees attempted to take the final game against the Minnesota Twins which would give them a split of the 4-game series, the team announced that often injured Stanton was placed on the injured list with a left hamstring strain. Stanton is expected to miss 4-6 weeks. The Bombers called up Oswald Peraza to replace him. Said manager Aaron Boone of the injury, “there’s no good timing for it, obviously. I know he’s really frustrated.”

The Twins came into Yankee Stadium Friday night losing the last 14 of 16 games played in the Bronx. Their new roster didn’t care taking the first two games of the series before New York rebounded taking game 3. Last Sunday afternoon, they trotted out ace Gerrit Cole and he continued his early season dominance. In the 2-0 shutout, Cole (4-0) pitched a complete game throwing 109 pitches and only allowed 3 base runners, 2 hits and one walk, striking out 10. Most impressive however is the fact that he has not given up a home run in his 4 starts. Last year, he gave up 33. The win lowered his ERA to 0.95. Said Cole afterwards on his performance, “it’s just old school. We had our work cut out for us today. We were facing a great team and a great pitcher. So just satisfied with the win.”

DJ LeMahieu supplied all the runs Cole needed when he drove in Aaron Judge and then homered in the 6th inning. “He was great,” said LeMahieu of Cole’s outing. “About as good as you can pitch. He was impressive and I’m glad he could finish it off there for the CG.

The win upped the Yankees record to 10-6 as they are in third place. The Tampa Bay Rays are in first with a 14-2 record. New York began a 3-game series against the Anaheim Angels Tuesday night before the Toronto Blue (10-6) come to town Friday for 3-games.
