Yankee ace Gerrit Cole was awarded the AL Cy Young Award this past week after a superb year on the mound. The 33 year old hurler’s performance was easily the brightest spot of the Yankees’ not-so-memorable 2023 season.

Cole, who has finished second for the CYA two times previously in his illustrious career (2019 and 2021), received a unanimous vote to take home the award. Having led the league in ERA, Pitcher’s WAR. Win %, WHIP, Innings Pitched, Hits Allowed Per 9 Innings, and many other stats, Cole was a no-brainer to win it.

Rookie shortstop Anthony Volpe also took home hardware; he became the first Yankee rookie to win the Golden Glove. Volpe’s talents as a defensive player have already been proven, but the baseball world will be waiting to see how he has improved his offensive abilities come next spring.

The 21-year-old has shown flashes of being a dangerous offensive player, and finished the season with 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases. He is now the 15th rookie in league history, and first Yankee rookie, to join the 20/20 club.
