Last Saturday night the Knicks met the defending NBA champion Boston Celtics for the first time since opening night. For the second Saturday night in a row in front of a national television audience, the Knicks were beaten convincingly. The Knicks lost 131-104. Boston’s Jayson Tatum had a game-high 40 points and reserve guard Payton Pritchard scored 25 points for the Celtics. Every player on the Knicks had a subpar night shooting the ball other than Jalen Brunson who had a team had 36 points and made all 13 of his free throws. “Today as a whole was just unacceptable,” Brunson said after the game. “Playing them is always to see where we are, and we see where we are and that is not where we want to be.”
Knicks center Karl Anthony Towns was listed as questionable before the game but did answer the bell. He had a rough night making just three of eight shots for 9 points and 9 rebounds. “We got a lot of work to do,” Towns said postgame. “It’s as simple as that, there is no sugarcoating it.” The Knicks will enter their All-Star break after Wednesday night’s home game versus Atlanta.
