In a Monday night showdown that started with James Harden, the Brooklyn Nets were able to pull out a home court win over their next borough neighbors, the New York Knicks. While both teams came out strong in the first quarter with 36 points (Knicks) and 31 points (Nets), it was the Knicks who put the pressure on in the second quarter adding 33 more points to the Nets 26.

Despite an early game injury that sidelined James Harden, the Nets still managed to keep an even pace with Kyrie Irving scoring an impressive 40 points, nearly double that of any other top scorers of the night.  His efforts followed by those of Jeff Green with 23 points to his name helped catapult Brooklyn to a home court victory with a Box score of 114-112. Other honorable mentions of the night were Irving’s game leading 7 assists and Joe Harris’ 8 rebounds.

Said Nets first year head coach Steve Nash said after the game, “we have a positive attitude in our locker room, a winning mentality, and regardless of who’s out there or not, we’re going to go for it. We’re going to find a way to come together and win. You can’t win every night, but you try to figure it out and solve problems every night and the guys were terrific tonight again at finding a way.”

Kevin Durant did not play but is getting closer as he shot around prior to the game. As far as the Harden injury, Nash said, very frustrating for James. But we can’t risk it if we can afford not to. That depends on trust between us and James and making sure that he feels comfortable in the decision and tonight I thought the right decision was not to take any risks with him. Who knows? This may linger. It may be all behind us like we thought it was before the game but it’s just one of those things where the scan is clean, the strength tests are clean but he feels something, so we’re going to error on the side of caution.”
