The Brooklyn Nets had another early test in the young season, taking on the newly revamped Miami Heat at Barclays Center, and the Brooklyn Nets continued to struggle, falling to Miami 106-93.
The biggest reason for Brooklyn’s struggles is the play of James Harden. Through five games, Harden is only averaging 16.6 points on 36% shooting, 8 assists and 7 rebounds. Harden is coming off an off-season injury and is off to a slow start because of it. Also, the new NBA rules, which eliminates fouls called when offensive players initiate contact, aren’t allowing Harden to get to the free-throw line.
Jets Pathetic In Loss To Patriots
The other reason is the elephant in the room: The Nets miss perennial all-star Kyrie Irving, whose decision to not obtain the COVID-19 game makes him ineligible for home games, and Brooklyn decided to make him ineligible for road games as well. Brooklyn superstar Kevin Durant addressed it after the game.
“Yeah, we do miss Kyrie, we do,” Durant said. “He’s a part of our team.”
A third, but expected problem is the lack of defensive rebounding. But if Harden plays better or Kyrie returns, their talents will overcome the team’s lack of size.
