The New York Knicks know all about injuries to key players that ravaged their team last year and derailed their attempt at a deep playoff run. So, they were not feeling sorry when they beat the Phoenix Suns who were without Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal. The same was said when they finished their 5-game road trip against the Charlotte Hornets who were without 3 starters (LaMelo Ball, Miles Bridges and Mark Williams) as well as 3 reserves (Nick Richards and Grant Williams). Still, the Hornets would not go away losing 99-98 to the Knicks who not only won 3 of 5 road games but improved to 3-0 in NBA Cup play.

This past Sunday, the Knicks faced the New Orleans Pelicans who were without All Star Zion Williamson as well as Brandon Ingram and Herb Jones. New York took no pity on the Pelicans in the 118-85 win. It was their 6 win in their last 8 games. Mikal Bridges, who had struggled in his previous two games, showed the team and fans why the organization traded for him. In finishing with 31 points, he scored 13 in the last quarter.

Said Bridges after his performance in which the Knicks had a double-digit lead for the last 43 minutes, “it’s a new team. That’s pretty much it. I’ve never played with an offensive talent like Karl Anthony Towns as a big. Never dealt with a big who pops out to the 3-point a lot like that. Just something we had to adjust to and it’s going to take time.”

Tuesday night, the Knicks took on the Orlando Magic (15-7) at Madison Square Garden looking to improve their NBA Cup record to 4-0. They then hosted the Hornets Thursday and Detroit Saturday.
