Nationwide — Sana Bell, a 31-year-old African American Chicago police dispatcher, has been reported missing, and her family is urgently asking for the public’s help in finding her. Bell was last seen Thursday afternoon after returning a rental car near 1313 East 60th Street in the city’s Woodlawn neighborhood. She was wearing gray jogging pants at the time of her disappearance.
According to Fox 32 Chicago, her family says Bell suffers from depression and may need immediate medical attention. They also note she is known to find comfort by visiting the lakefront and often rides the CTA Red Line for long periods. Loved ones describe her disappearance as out of character and deeply concerning.
Bell is described as a Black woman standing 5 feet 3 inches tall, weighing 120 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. On Friday, family and friends gathered to search for her, spreading the word and retracing her possible routes in hopes of finding any clues.
The case has drawn attention to a broader and ongoing crisis: the disproportionate rate at which Black women and girls go missing in the United States—and how these cases often receive far less media coverage and fewer investigative resources. According to the Black and Missing Foundation, Black women represent nearly 40% of all missing women nationwide, despite being just 13% of the female population. Advocates argue that systemic bias plays a major role in the delayed response and underreporting of these cases.
