Super middleweight Edgar Berlanga, who gained fame by knocking out his first 16 opponents, remained undefeated Saturday night in his 20th professional bout when he won a unanimous decision over Alexis Angulo (99-91 2x and 98-92) at Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in front of a crowd that included boxing Hall of Famer Miguel Cotto.

Though most in the crowd were Berlanga fans, the jeers from them suggested the margin of victory was exaggerated and some even thought Angulo pulled off the upset.

Berlanga discussed his win after his victory. “Mentally, I felt good,” he said. “I felt happy the whole training camp. I moved the training camp to Puerto Rico, and I can’t be more grateful to be on my island training,” Berlanga also drew comparisons to Mike Tyson, and not in a good way. The frustrated young fighter addressed biting his opponent, something Tyson did to Evander Holyfield. “He was throwing elbows. I was about to do a Mike Tyson on him,” Berlanga explained. “He kept throwing his elbows, and I didn’t want to get cut.”

Berlanga has since apologized to his opponent and fans via Twitter.
