Newark, NJ – The Alabama Crimson Tide rolled over a very game BYU Cougars team 113-88 Thursday night at the Prudential Center in Brooklyn. The story of this game was Alabama’s torrid shooting as they set an NCAA Tournament record by making 25 three points shots on 51 shots which is an elite percentage of 49%. Alabama guard Mark Sears made 10 of 16 threes, backup guard Aden Holloway made 6 of 13 threes, and starting shooting guard Chris Youngblood went 5 for 11 from three. “That was a fun game if you like offense,” Alabama Head Coach Nate Odoms said after the game.
Consensus first team All-American point guard Mark Sears came into the game making just five of his previous 35 three-point attempts over his last six games which is a percentage of 14%. “I told Mark he is playing chess not checkers. He just kind of set everybody up with that 5 of 35 thinking he was in a slump, and he came out and shot 63%, ain’t bad,” Odoms said. “So, ten threes, I think first guy in NCAA history I was told that had at least eight threes and seven assists. So not only was he scoring it, but he was moving it. It helps to get assists when you got guys like C.Y. and Aden Halloway making shots like they did too. So, between these three guys we had 21 threes. We’ve hit 22 before a couple of times I think, and maybe 23 but we’ve never hit 25.” Sears finished with a game high 34 points and 8 assists to set up a regional final Friday night in Newark, New Jersey against the Duke Blue Devils where the winner will win a bid to the Final Four.
