Three Yankees and one Met will be representing their respective leagues in the 2024 All-Star game. Both teams are in the playoff race, with the Yankees drastically faltering over the past 2 months, and the Mets experiencing a resurgence. At the start of June, the Yanks had a .683 win percentage compared to the Mets’ .414. Now, at the All-Star Break, the Yankees have fallen to a .592 win percentage while the Mets have risen to .516.

From the Bronx, sluggers Aaron Judge and Juan Soto will be starting in the outfield for the A.L. Judge and Soto pack the best offensive one-two punch in the MLB, and have been the biggest reason New York has managed to stay afloat through their terrible slump. The pair has hit a combined 57 home runs, over 40% of the team’s total. No other Yankee has an OPS. over .800, while Judge sits at 1.112, and Soto, at .985, both top 2 marks in the A.L. Soto is everything the Yankee fans hoped he’d be and more, and without him, they would be lucky to be in any kind of comfortable position at this point in the season.

From the bullpen, Clay Holmes will make his 2nd All-Star appearance for the Yanks. His selection has faced some backlash, mainly from Yankee fans, who feel he hasn’t earned his spot. Holmes was brilliant to start the season, but has experienced some woes as of late, and he now leads the A.L. in blown saves. His ERA is still below 3.00, but Yankee fans can’t help but hold their breath every time he jogs out from the pen, which is not something that signifies an “All-Star level closer”.

For the Mets, “Polar” Pete Alonso makes his 4th All-Star appearance in his young career. Alonso hasn’t been great, especially for his standards, but he’s had big moments and it’s not uncommon for a star of his caliber to make the roster on merit. Still, the Mets will need him to immediately bounce back from a poor July if they are to make a run at the playoffs. If both New York teams can make the postseason, it will be just the 2nd time in the past decade to happen.
