The defending NBA Champion Boston Celtics kept their season alive on Wednesday night with a 127-103 win over the Knicks. Shooting guard Derrick White scored a game high 34 points, and All-Star Forward Jaylen Brown finished with 26 points, 12 assists, and 8 rebounds. Former Knick Luke Kornet came off the bench and stunned everyone to produce 10 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 blocked shots.
The Celtics played their first game of the series without their headline player, forward Jayson Tatum who suffered a season ending Achilles injury in the previous game. Many wanted to count the Celtics out in this game down three games to one in the series, but the Celtics responded like champions defending their title, and their fans would not let them give up.
“I appreciate the fans that showed up tonight, it was a great atmosphere, it was loud,” Jaylen Brown said after the game. “I know it’s easy to kind of write things off. Obviously unfortunate what happened to JT, but we still got basketball to be played, you know I believe in this group so don’t count us out just yet,” Speaking to the media after the game Brown continued to nail home the message he’s given to his teammates since his co-star Tatum has gone done. “Defense, that’s all I’m talking about is defense, nothing easy,” he said. “Find a way to get stops, dig deep, mano a mano and win your match ups, play defense, and that’s pretty much been the emphasis.”
Boston will travel to New York for Game 6 of the series, which will be played Friday night. If they win, they will host game 7. If the Knicks win and close out the series, they will be in the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in 25 years.
