A tense altercation at a Florida Publix has sparked widespread outrage after a store security guard, armed and wearing a tactical vest, confronted a Marine veteran over a bag of dog food. The veteran, who is Black, accused the white security guard of drawing his weapon unnecessarily, escalating a situation that quickly turned into a heated exchange. The veteran insisted that the dog food had been purchased at a nearby Walgreens, not at Publix.
In video footage of the encounter, posted to Instagram by @jungletographytv, the veteran repeatedly demands that the guard lower his weapon. “You better get that gun out of my face,” he says. At one point, he identifies himself as a Marine veteran with “seven confirmed kills” and accuses the guard of being overly aggressive. The security officer, appearing dismissive, calls him a “tough guy” and orders him to leave the store.
Bystanders, though visibly uneasy, avoided direct involvement. The video ends with the veteran grabbing his dog food and walking away. Many on social media condemned the security guard’s behavior, questioning why he was carrying a weapon in a grocery store. One commenter described him as “trigger happy,” warning that he could seriously harm someone while “pretending he’s a cop.”
While the majority of comments supported the veteran, a handful of users defended the guard’s actions, raising questions about why the man had brought dog food into another store. Others, however, argued that regardless of where the dog food had come from, the security guard had no justification for pulling his weapon on an unarmed customer.
The video, which has amassed thousands of views, has reignited conversations about racial profiling, the role of armed security in retail settings, and the potential dangers of private guards acting beyond their authority. It remains unclear whether Publix will take disciplinary action against the security guard.
