Things are going south very quickly for the New York Football Giants. They get embarrassed by the Dallas Cowboys to open up the season giving up 40 points. After trailing to the Arizona Cardinals, they rallied for the come from behind win. The victory saw them lose running back Saquan Barkley who suffered a sprained ankle. Without Barkley, they traveled to San Fransisco and could only put 12 points on the board in the loss. Monday night at MetLife Stadium they hosted Seattle Seahawks and watched as quarterback Daniel Jones get sacked 10 times in the 24-3 loss. Looking to get into the end zone for the first time trailing 14-3, Jones moved the team to the Seattle 3-yard line. Looking for wide receiver Parris Campbell, Jones pass is picked off by cornerback Devon Witherspoon who returns it 97-yards for the touchdown. Game, set, match. Jones finished his night completing 27 of 34 passes for 203 yards.
There was plenty of blame to be shared for the team beginning with the offensive line. The defense has been horrible as well. The Giants have been outscored 94-15 overall as well as being outscored 64-3 at home. Things don’t get any easier as they travel to Miami to face a Dolphins team who scored 70 points against Denver. The Fish are coming off their first loss of the year at Buffalo last Sunday 48-20.
Said Jones of the ill-timed pick 6, “terrible decision, awful mistake. Can’t afford to do that.” Second year head coach Brian Daboll acknowledged the fan rage as team was embarrassed once again on national television. “We just didn’t get the job done,” he said.
When the New York Giants re-signed Daniel Jones, they were hoping that his play would improve and that leading the team to the playoffs last year (they beat the Minnesota Vikings on the road in the Wild Card game) was no fluke. After the 3 games and not having Barkley, the season can be over quickly.
Confidence is something that Jones does not lack. As solemn as he was after the game, he believes the team can turn it around. “We are going to watch the film, we are going to study it, we are going to be critical and correct it and move on,” Jones insisted.
