Cole Made His First All Star Start

Yanks Anemic Bats Cost Dillion His Job

It was a disappointing weekend for the Yankees as they failed to win a series for the third straight time, falling to 4th place ahead of the All-Star break.

In game 1, Chicago shut the Yanks out 3-0 in an embarrassing 2-hit performance. In his first start of the year, newly acquired Carlos Rodon showed his worth, pitching 5.2 innings and allowing 2 runs. Former Yankee Jameson Taillon had his best start of the year for Chicago, throwing 8 and giving up only 1 hit.

In game 2, the Yankee bats did better, producing 6 runs through 5 innings enroute to a 6-3 victory. Gerrit Cole had a decent outing, going 7.1 innings and allowing 3 runs. Giancarlo Stanton hit 2 homers and Harrison Bader added 2 more runs with a double in the 3rd.

In the final game of the series, Domingo German pitched a great game, throwing 6 innings with 9 strikeouts allowing only 1 run. But the bullpen could not hold on and the bats went quiet after the 6th, resulting in a 7-4 Yankee loss.

The team also fired their hitting coach, Dillion Lawson, as offensive woes continued. They hired .302 career hitter Sean Casey, who inside sources say has long been groomed for the role. There is hope that Casey, who was a 4x All-Star in his playing career, can turn the Yankees’ offense around with less than half the season remaining.

It was announced this past Monday that Yankees Gerrit Cole would start the All-Star game that took place Tuesday night in Seattle. Cole will be appearing in his 6th All-Star game but it will be his first as a starter. Cole finished his first half with a 9-2 record and a 2.85 ERA. The National League will trot out Zac Gallen of the Arizona Diamondbacks. It will be Gallen’s first All-Star appearance as he finished his first half with a record of 11-3, striking out 125 in 118 innings.
