In a competitive game that saw the New York Jets leading the Miami Dolphins 19-17 with a chance to take a 20-19 lead with a field goal, Miami’s kicker Jason Sanders missed. The New York Jets dominated from that point on, forcing a turnover and scoring three touchdowns for a 40-17 win. The win was the first in the regular season for the Jets against a divisional opponent after 12-straight losses.

Zach Wilson talked about the early 3-2 record changing the expectations of the young Jets team. “The expectation is changing,” Wilson said.  “We’re expecting to come in here and win.”

But don’t let the score fool you: Miami remained competitive with their third-string quarterback Skylar Thompson in with Tua Tagovailoa out because of concussion protocols and backup Teddy Bridgewater, who started, being knocked out of the game early in the first quarter after a hit that forced a safety.

One of the biggest highlights of the game was the defense of the New York Jets forcing Miami’s quarterback to fumble after a sack, which was recovered by defensive lineman Quinnen Williams, who ran it for 12 yards to the five, which included a stiff arm of Miami wide receiver Tyreek Hill. The Jets scored and went up 33-17 to put the game away.

Fellow defensive lineman Sheldon Rankins commented on his teammate not getting into the end zone, but having a highlight reel stiff arm. “Obviously, you want to see a big man get in the end zone and do a
little dance, but a close second is launching another human being into the ground,” Rankins said. “That’s a very close second.”

Second year head coach Robert Saleh was quick to praise his young players.  “Anyone that watches you tape knows that we havea really cool nucleus of young men,  “he began. “They have a chance to be a real explosive group. The challenges for this group do not stop, but it’s fun to watch especially when they play so freely.”

The Jets face the Packers in Green Bay Sunday. Aaron Rodgers and crew lost to the New
York Giants last Sunday in London.
