Three people have been charged in Mississippi with capital murder for their alleged roles in the kidnapping, sexual assault, and fatal shooting of Amya Carey, who was 18 at the time.
Dewitt Anderson, 34, Cedric Banks, 37, and Kaymia Blackmon, 19, were arrested by the Jackson Police Department during a press conference held on Friday.
Carey’s remains were discovered on Feb. 15 — discarded on a public roadway, according to Jackson Police Department Deputy Chief Deric Hearn.
Carey was shot numerous times and died as a result of her injuries. Her body was discovered two weeks ago.
Relatives told Hearn that Carey had left home on Feb. 15 to pick up her pal Blackmon.
He claimed that Blackmon was with Anderson, her lover.
Blackmon, Anderson, and Banks — Anderson’s brother — attempted to have intercourse with the teen later that evening, but she declined, stated Hearn.
Carey and Blackmon apparently began fighting at that moment, and Anderson allegedly pulled out a revolver and shot Carey, added Hearn.
Hearn explained that the injured adolescent was put in a car and then raped by one of the suspects.
Carey had supposedly been shot twice more before being thrown on the street.
By Monday, no information on the plea was available.
The three accused are being detained indefinitely without bail. It is not yet clear whether any of them were represented by an attorney who could respond to the charges on their behalf.
In a separate incident, a convicted serial killer already serving 160 years in prison is facing new charges in the strangling death of a New Jersey teen.
Khalil A. Wheeler-Weaver, 24, was formally charged with murdering 15-year-old Mawa Doumbia on Thursday, according to a statement from the Essex County Prosecutors’ Office.
Doumbia had gone missing in late 2016, the same year Wheeler-Weaver used online dating apps to lure Sarah Butler, 20, Robin West, 19, and Joanne Brown, 33, to their deaths.
