In an action-packed game that saw the Dallas Mavericks double-team Kevin Durant for most of the game without Kyrie Irving at Barclays Center because of the COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate, the Nets were also without Ben Simmons, Seth Curry, and LaMarcus Aldridge because of injury. Durant put Brooklyn up one on their final possession with about 10 seconds left. Durant then blitzed Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic to get the ball out of his hand but he found former Brooklyn Net Spencer Dinwiddie, who nailed a game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Durant discussed the decision to double-team Doncic. “I felt there was an opportunity for us to get the ball out of Luka’s hands with 30 seconds on the clock,” Durant explained. “Then they rushed their pass and they rushed their shot. I thought the probabilities on making that shot was pretty low, but he made a great shot.”

Durant then talked about the shot his former teammate nailed to win the game. “It’s a make or miss league, if he missed that it’s great defense by us,” he said. “But that’s why he gets paid $20 million a year to make them shots. Gotta give ’em credit.”

Doncic led all scorers with 37 points. Dinwiddie added 22. Durant led the Nets with 23 and Goran Dragic starting in place of Irving, chipped in with 21 points.
