For the St. Louis Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, getting to the last game of the year was something he could not have imagined. He spent 12 years as a member of the Detroit Lions setting team records along the way. In 2012, Stafford became the 4th player in NFL history to pass for over 5,000 yards in one season. He became the fastest quarterback to pass for 40,00 yards.

The knock however was his failure in the postseason. Stafford’s regular season record was a disappointing 74-90 and although he got them to the playoffs 3 times, they lost all 3 games. So it was no surprise the Lions decided to part ways then they traded him to the Rams for their starting quarterback Jared Goff.

Stafford thrived in the Sean McVay offense with the help of wide receiver Cooper Kupp and the mid season addition of Odell Beckham, Jr. That cast has rallied around Stafford who is looking for that elusive ring. Said Stafford about the guys who have helped him get to the top, “it’s a driven group we have in there. I’m just happy and proud to be part of this group.”

Stafford’s road to the Super Bowl was unlikely. He is finally surrounded by players that can help him get his first ring. Something he didn’t have in his 12 years as a member of the Detroit Lions.
