The Brooklyn Nets experienced a COVID-19 outbreak within the organization that had at least one player wondering if the team would even play, with seven players on the 15-man roster entering into the NBA’s COVID Health and Safety Protocols. On top of that, Kevin Durant, fresh off of a season-high 51-point performance in his previous game, had an ankle injury and was questionable to play. Durant being out would mean Brooklyn would not have enough players to even meet the eight-player minimum required by the NBA. But Durant played and turned in another masterful performance, finishing with 34 points, 11 assists, and 13 rebounds, all team highs, and led Brooklyn to an improbable, 131-129 overtime win.

Durant discussed the gutsy win after the game. “Words can’t describe how proud I am,” Durant said. “I just try to do what’s required, man. I want to be out there, I want to play, I want to win. So whatever I got to do to accomplish those three things I’m going to do,” he exclaimed.

Patty Mills added 30 points for Brooklyn, and in his first-career NBA start in his third NBA game, David Duke, Jr added 10 points, 13 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals.

Prior to the game, Barclays Center became the first major sports and entertainment venue in New York City to open a sensory room when it held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for The Greyson Matthews Sensory Room. Greyson is the son of Jwoww aka Jenni Farley, best known from MTV’s Jersey Shore.
