A 26 year old Florida woman was arrested for allegedly throwing her 4 year old daughter into a river and letting her drown.
According to TheGrio, The Tampa Police Department released a press statement on the arrest of Shakayla “Kayla” Denson. Denson was charged with first degree murder after the police received a phone call that her daughter Je’Hyrah Daniels had been thrown in the Hillsborough River.
Daniels was reportedly unconscious in the water about 75 feet from shore and was unable to be resuscitated according to PEOPLE.
4 year old Daniels was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Denson was picked up near the crime scene. Denson reportedly stole a grey Nissan Altima from a vehicle repair shop and drove it to the Hillsborough River.
Denson was also charged with aggravated child abuse and grand theft auto.
According to a witness statement, Denson was carrying a bible and only wearing a bra and leggings.
Witnesses say Shakayla Denson waded into the Hillsborough River with her 4-year-old daughter. Roughly halfway across the river, she tossed the child and began wading out, police say.

Police found that Denson had created a GoFundMe Account asking for assistance to treat her daughter’s autism.
Denson wrote, ““My goal is to start saving for therapy equipment, and also for Je’Hyrah’s future,” in a post titled “Life with Je’Hyrah.”
