The Philadelphia Police Department has finally decided to try de-escalating confrontations with individuals accused of trespassing on private business property, nearly two months after officers infamously arrested two Black men at a downtown Starbucks. Going forward, officers will attempt to defuse situations between property owners and alleged defiant trespassers before making an arrest, according to new guidelines issued Friday in a Philadelphia Police Department memo.
