Simone Biles won her fifth US women’s gymnastics title on Sunday, and designed her leotard to make a statement about being a survivor. The color, a light teal, is the designated color for survivors of sexual abuse. Biles revealed in January that she was one of the victims of the former US Gymnastics team doctor, Larry Nassar. On the eve of Nassar’s sentencing for sexually abusing girls in his care, Simone Biles came forward to say me too.
“I, too, am one of the many survivors that was sexually abused by Larry Nassar, there are many reasons that I have been reluctant to share my story, but I know now that it is not my fault.”
Her leotard represents her talents and achievements, while making sure that Nassar’s victims are at the forefront.”The color is for the survivors, I stand with all of them and I think its kind of special to unite people.”
