Sean Newcomb, a pitcher for the Atlanta Braves, has apologized for some of his tweets. They have since been deleted, but screenshots shows Newcomb reportedly using a gay slur, and once using the n-word. The tweets were sent when he was 18, but they were easily found on his profile until he recently deleted them, after they were brought to the media’s attention.

Major League Baseball is aware of the situation and plans to have Newcomb attend a diversity training. Newcomb said he posted “some stupid stuff”, and that he “didn’t mean anything by it”. This obviously isn’t the first time a player has been exposed by social media. Earlier this month, a pitcher from the Milwaukee Brewers, Josh Vader, apologized after his own offensive tweets resurfaced. He too will be required to go through sensitivity and diversity training.
