Betsy DeVos is planning to implement new policies on campus sexual misconduct that would not help the victim, but instead would bolster the rights of students accused of harassment, assault, or rape. The proposed rules would also reduce liability for colleges and universities, and encourage schools to be the ones providing support for the victims.
The new rules would only hold schools accountable for formal complaints filed through the correct authorities, and only for incidents that have occurred on their campus. The Obama administration’s guidance documents for this issue will be overshadowed by DeVos’ new rules, which will have the force of law and could be enacted without Congress.
