As many will tell you, those who don’t know their history are doomed to repeat it. This applies to not only knowing things that happened in the past but not knowing the different perspectives on what happened in some of these historical events.  Essence reports that a new project is working to make sure that black newspapers will be preserved for future generations, by digitizing decades-worth of photos for the masses. The curators at The Obsidian Collection Archives are digitally archiving photos from The Chicago Defender, Baltimore Afro American and other historically Black newspapers in the United States. According to Chicago Magazine, they are partnering with Google Arts and Culture to create a series of “digital exhibits” that will be free for the public to look at.
