As President Donald Trump talks about ending immigration to the United States based on extended family ties, the legal status of his mother and father-in-law face new scrutiny as they move closer toward naturalization and U.S. citizenship.

First Lady Melania Trump parents Viktor and Amalja Knavs are permanent residents of the United States after emigrating from Slovenia.

Their attorney, Michael Wildes was quoted in published as saying that the Knavs were both admitted to the United as permanent residents and that they are not part of the administration and asked that their privacy be respected.
