Dozens of black women met on campus at Jackson State University to strategize about the upcoming midterm elections.

“All of us who are in the room right now are midwives for transformation,” said Rukia Lumumba, co founder of the Electoral Justice Project. Black women have set record numbers in the polls recently, and as of this week 39 black women are nominees for the US House in the November midterms.

During the meeting, the women plotted how best to attract the energy of voters this fall, as similar groups have been doing across the country. These meetings are all part of an effort to reshape the politics of the Trump era, when many black voters feel they are in a threatening climate, due to racial polarization.
