Inwood is one of the furthest uptown neighborhoods of Manhattan, and maybe the last affordable part of the city. There are parks, including 196 acres of Inwood Hill Park, riverfront views, and the last natural forest in Manhattan.

Those who live there say there is a specific and neighborly culture in Inwood, where the residents look after each other and respect each other. Mayor Bill de Blasio plans to rezone up to 15 neighborhoods across the city, and some residents fear their way of life will be impacted. de Blasio’s goal is to facilitate the construction and preservation of 300,000 unites of affordable housing, but the new zoning would dramatically alter the area, and maybe its current cultural climate.

Many residents fear the consequences of the rezoning, and frequently protest this developing plan. They hold signs that say “Inwood is not for sale”, “Stop racist rezoning”, and “Your luxury is our eviction”. The neighborhood houses a large population of hispanic and Dominican residents, and they fear the consequences of the rezoning will fall mainly on them.
