Ex-cop Roy Oliver was found guilty of fatally shooting 15-year-old Jordan Edwards, but he was only sentenced to 15 years. In April 2017, Oliver fired into a car filled with teens leaving a house party, killing Edwards. His family believes this sentence is too short for the crime committed.

“He can actually see life again after 15 years and thats not enough because Jordan can’t see life again,” Edwards’ stepmother said of the sentencing on Wednesday night. But an attorney for Edwards’ father said while the sentence could have been longer, it will still send a message.

“We know that there are parents all over this country who would love to see the person who took the life of their kid spend the next 15 years in prison,” Washington said.
