A new trend seems to be unraveling, of successful athletes donating their time and money to helping young students. In the past week, LeBron James opened his “I Promise” school in Akron, Ohio, and Derrick Rose launched his new scholarship program, “The Rose Scholars.” Rose’s program will give away more than 400,000 dollars of tuition money to students.

“Through ‘The Rose Scholars’ program, I hope to provide students a path to college that was not previously available to them. Investing in school-age youth has long been a passion of mine, and I am proud to continue to help children pursue higher education as a means to better themselves and their communities,” Rose said.

Applicants will need to be “civic-minded and demonstrate an ability to lead” to receive a scholarship, as well as having a minimum 3.0 GPA with at least a 1230 SAT.
