During a recent event in Brooklyn, volunteers for Cynthia Nixon’s campaign for governor came upon an unexpected situation, some voters were much more familiar with her running mate, Jumaane D. Williams.

Leading with his name first has turned out to be a highly effective approach. Amidst speculation over whether or not New York’s Democratic primary will replicate other upsets around the nation, a lot of attention has been focused on Nixon’s challenge to Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

“My community is split. Some want to vote for Cynthia Nixon and some want to vote for Cuomo, but Jumaane will get 90 percent of the vote here.” Said an Assemblywoman who represents Flatbush. The popularity of Nixon’s running mate could indicate an upset in New York, with Nixon making history with an upset, a trend happening nationwide.
