Tensions between black residents and Korean-American merchants escalated in several Brooklyn neighborhoods decades ago, and a recent video has some believing this conflict has resurfaced. The video shows Asian nail salon workers attacking African-American customers.

The quick spread of this video prompted a group to stand outside of the nail salon in protest, reminiscent of the conflict started in 1990, where an Asian-American grocer and African-American residents stood on opposing sides. This time however, the conflict seems to be resolving itself, instead of escalating as it did in the 90s.

One customer, Denise Benn, blames the conflict on the customers instead of the salon workers. “These people don’t bother anybody, they work hard, 12 hours seven days a week, my god, and the people come in there and they don’t want to give them a tip.”
