Retirement seems to be the choice of weary battle worn republicans.  What happened to all the energy they had to fight President Obama?  Trying to placate the uncontrollable Trump card seems to have caused retreat, back-peddling, and destruction of political vision.  Surely, the Republican Party must long for the days of intelligent exchange with a potential for progressive . . . . nah!  In this round Speaker of the House Paul Ryan has succumbed to the weight of endless commentary and he wants to leave a winner.  Winners know when to fold em’; as Republicans start to lose the House and the Senate.  To date, at least 39 members of congress are retiring/retreating from elected office, and Mr. Ryan is now joining their ranks.  Will this become the new, new Republican Party?  At his best, which he may never have been, I wondered “how long?”  His worst just keeps popping up – repealing the Affordable Care Act, lying about the benefit of tax cuts for ALL Americans, his egregious fight to end Planned Parenthood, his ride or die support for 45 – he was just being himself.  Yoo hoo can you take Trump with you – “leave no man behind”.  Oops, that’s the Marines – my sincerest apologies to the Marines!!  The knowledge of being on the wrong side of the fight is revealed in frame after frame of his face.  Perhaps, at last, he is slightly ashamed of condoning secrets, lies and possibly videotape.

Democratic victories suggest a reversal of control of the house and senate.  More importantly, positives cannot exist without negatives, and a huge negative is the strong possibility of white nationalist, alt right supporter, winning his run for the Wisconsin GOP seat Paul Ryan will vacate.  Don’t forget to remember “some of them are very fine people”. Paul Nehlen (the #ItsOkayToBeWhite hashtag guy) is the name to research and the candidate to watch; he hates all people he perceives as non-white, and non-Christian.  His intolerance of Jews is well known and documented in a recent edition of The Times of Israel dated.

A progressive republic requires that citizens implement their franchise forcefully. By voting we express our preference for and the right to an unbiased democracy, not a demagogue.  Awake from the slumber of political malaise and make informed voting decisions.  Identify your choices, understand how the law is implemented, and become aware of your rights.
